About Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is a small luxury resort in the jungle outside Ubud, in central Bali, set beside the Ayung River and surrounded by rice fields and rainforest. It has 60 accommodations: 35 suites and 25 private pool villas.
What sets it apart is its setting and size. Ritz-Carlton Reserve is the brand’s most exclusive tier, and Mandapa feels more like a private village than a hotel, with river views, working rice paddies and a strong focus on Balinese culture. It suits couples, honeymooners and families who want a calm, inland retreat rather than a beach stay.

Beach, pools and spa
There is no beach in Ubud. Instead, the main pool looks over working rice paddies and the rainforest, with free cabanas and loungers, and the pool villas have their own private pools.
The spa sits by the river and has treatment rooms including couples’ rooms, a vitality pool with a thermal hydrotherapy circuit, saunas, a yoga studio and relaxation areas. A 24-hour fitness center is also available.
Activities and entertainment
Mandapa Camp is the resort’s children’s club, with a Mini Explorers nature program, and babysitting is available for a fee. Adults can use the yoga studio and join cultural activities.
Ubud town, with its art markets, palace and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, is a short drive away, and rafting trips run on the Ayung River.
Beyond the resort, Bali packs a lot into a small island: sea temples such as Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, the rice terraces and craft villages around Ubud, surf breaks on the Bukit Peninsula and the beach clubs of Seminyak and Canggu. Traffic in the south can be slow, so it pays to plan day trips by area.
Who it’s best for
- Best for: couples, honeymooners and families who want a quiet, culture-rich luxury stay in the rice fields of Ubud.
- Consider another resort if: you want a beach on your doorstep or a lively resort with lots of restaurants and nightlife.
Getting there from Ngurah Rai International Airport
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about 84 minutes from the resort by car. Traffic between the airport and Ubud can be heavy, so it is worth arranging a car through the resort in advance.
Many guests split their stay between Ubud and a beach area such as Nusa Dua, Seminyak or Uluwatu.
Most hotels can arrange a car to meet you at arrivals, which is the easiest option after a long flight. Traffic in south Bali can be heavy, especially in the late afternoon, so allow extra time for the return trip to the airport.
