Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is a boutique cave hotel built into the caldera cliff in Oia, at the northern tip of Santorini. It has 42 suites and villas, cut into the rock with views over the Aegean and the volcano.

What sets it apart is its blend of cave architecture and a strong food and wine offer, including a 150-year-old wine cellar used for tastings and candlelit dinners. Beach, pools and spa

There is no beach at the hotel. Instead there are two pools, one by Circe Bar and one near the Captain’s Lounge.

Elios Spa offers whole-body treatments using organic, regional ingredients, and there is a steam room and a fitness center.

Like most hotels on the caldera rim, the property is built into the cliff on several levels, so expect plenty of steps between the entrance, the pool and your suite. Guests with limited mobility should ask about access before booking.

Activities and entertainment

Santorini’s main travel season runs from spring to autumn. Many caldera hotels close or scale back services over the winter months, and pools may be closed outside the season, so check opening dates before you book. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months, while May, June, September and early October are usually warm with fewer crowds.

Wine tastings in the Secret Wine Cave are a highlight, and private dinners can be set up on a secluded caldera-edge terrace. Oia’s lanes, shops and sunset viewpoints are close by on foot.

Beyond the hotel, Santorini is all about the caldera views, the clifftop walk between Fira and Oia, wine tastings at local wineries, boat trips around the volcano and the hot springs, and the black and red sand beaches on the south and east coasts. Sunset in Oia is famous, so expect crowds in the village at that hour.

Who it’s best for

  • Best for: couples and honeymooners who want a cave-style suite, caldera views and a strong wine and dining program.
  • Consider another resort if: you are traveling with children under 14, want a beach or need step-free access.

Getting there from Santorini (Thira) International Airport

Santorini (Thira) International Airport (JTR) is about 16 km away, roughly a 23-minute drive. The port is about 18 km away.

Santorini’s airport is small and roads on the island are narrow and busy in summer. Booking the hotel’s transfer or a private car in advance saves waiting in the taxi line, which can be long when several flights land together.
