Pebble beach and sea stacks at Petra tou Romiou on the southwest coast of Cyprus

Cyprus is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean, in the far east of the sea, known for its sunny climate, sandy beaches, ancient ruins and the mountain villages of the Troodos range. Most visitors stay in Paphos and Coral Bay in the west, in Limassol on the south coast, or in Ayia Napa and Protaras in the east, known for their clear water and lively nightlife.

Most international flights land at Larnaca International Airport (LCA), about 45 minutes from Limassol and Ayia Napa, or at Paphos International Airport (PFO), about 20 to 30 minutes from Paphos and Coral Bay. The currency is the euro. Summers are hot and dry, and the beach season runs from about May to October. Winters are mild, with most of the rain falling between December and February, and some beach resorts close or scale back in winter.
