Galápagos Resorts & Tours

A Galápagos island with a sandy beach and clear blue water

The Galápagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 km (600 miles) off the coast of Ecuador, known for wildlife such as giant tortoises, marine iguanas, sea lions and blue-footed boobies. Most of the land is a national park. Visitors who stay on land base themselves in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristóbal or Puerto Villamil on Isabela, and explore on day trips by boat.

Flights from Quito and Guayaquil land at Seymour Airport on Baltra (GPS), about 1 hour from Puerto Ayora by bus, a short ferry and road, or at San Cristóbal Airport (SCY), a few minutes from town. Ecuador uses the U.S. dollar. Visitors pay a national park entrance fee and need a transit control card. The warmer, sunnier season runs from about December to May, and the cooler garúa season from June to November, when seas are rougher but marine life is rich.
