Snow-covered wilderness in Finnish Lapland

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, a small city on the Arctic Circle known for snowy forests, the Northern Lights and Santa Claus Village. Most visitors stay in the city center along the Kemijoki River, at Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle about 8 km north, or in glass igloo and cabin resorts in the forests around the city.

International and domestic flights land at Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), about 10 minutes from the city center and 5 minutes from Santa Claus Village. The local currency is the euro. Snow usually covers the ground from about November to April, the Northern Lights season runs from about late August to early April, and in June and July the midnight sun means it never gets dark.
