Corfu is a green, hilly Greek island in the Ionian Sea, off the northwest coast of mainland Greece and close to Albania. Its Venetian-era Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the coast mixes sandy bays, cliffs and small fishing villages. Most visitors stay in or near Corfu Town, along the northeast coast around Dassia, Gouvia and Kassiopi, or on the west coast at Paleokastritsa and Glyfada.

International flights land at Corfu International Airport (CFU), about 10 minutes from Corfu Town and 20 to 60 minutes from most resort areas. The local currency is the euro. Summers are hot and dry, and the main season runs from May to October. Many beach resorts close from November to April, while several hotels in Corfu Town stay open all year.
