Whitewashed houses of Little Venice on the waterfront of Mykonos Town, seen from above

Mykonos is a small, dry island in the Cyclades in the middle of the Aegean Sea, known for the whitewashed lanes of Mykonos Town (Chora), the windmills above Little Venice, its sandy beaches and its nightlife. Most visitors stay in or just outside Mykonos Town, or on the south coast beaches such as Ornos, Psarou, Platis Gialos and Paradise, with quieter bays at Agios Stefanos and Agios Ioannis.

Mykonos Island National Airport (JMK) is about 4 km from Mykonos Town, a 10 to 15 minute drive, and most south coast hotels are within 20 minutes. Ferries from Piraeus and Rafina arrive at the New Port in Tourlos. The local currency is the euro. The main season runs from May to October, with hot, dry weather and the strong meltemi wind in July and August, and most hotels close from about November to April.
