The whitewashed village of Lindos on Rhodes below its hilltop acropolis by the sea

Rhodes is the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea near the coast of Turkey. It is known for the walled medieval Old Town of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the acropolis and whitewashed village of Lindos, and long beaches on both coasts. Most visitors stay in Rhodes Town and the hotel strips of Ixia and Ialysos on the west coast, or in Faliraki, Lindos and Kiotari on the east coast.

International flights land at Rhodes International Airport (RHO) near Paradisi on the west coast, about 20 to 30 minutes from Rhodes Town and about 1 hour from Lindos. The currency is the euro. The main season runs from about May to October, with hot, dry summers. Many beach resorts close from about November to April, while many hotels in Rhodes Town stay open all year.
