Lombok is an Indonesian island just east of Bali, known for its quiet surf beaches, the Mount Rinjani volcano and the three small Gili Islands off its northwest coast. Boats to the Gili Islands leave from Bangsal and Teluk Nare harbors in the northwest, about 2 hours by road from the airport. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah. The dry season runs from about May to October, and the wet season from about November to March.
