Maldives Resorts & Tours

Wooden jetty leading to thatched overwater villas on a turquoise lagoon in the Maldives

The Maldives is a chain of about 1,200 coral islands grouped into atolls in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Sri Lanka. Most resorts take up a whole private island, with overwater villas, white-sand beaches and house reefs for snorkeling right off the shore. Resorts close to the capital, Malé, in the North and South Malé atolls are reached by speedboat, while those in farther atolls such as Ari and Baa need a seaplane or a domestic flight.

International flights land at Velana International Airport (MLE), on an island next to Malé, and your resort usually arranges the transfer from there. The local currency is the Maldivian rufiyaa, but resorts charge in U.S. dollars. The drier season runs roughly from December to April. Browse resorts and tours in the Maldives below, from snorkeling trips and sandbank cruises to Malé city tours and local island visits.
