Puerto Escondido is a laid-back beach town on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, known for the powerful surf at Zicatela Beach, calm swimming coves such as Carrizalillo and Puerto Angelito, and a relaxed, bohemian feel. Most visitors stay along Zicatela and its southern end at La Punta, in the quieter Rinconada and Bacocho area, or near the Adoquín, the pedestrian street above the main bay.

Flights land at Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM), just north of town and about 10 to 20 minutes from most hotels. The local currency is the Mexican peso. The dry season runs from about November to April, while May to October is hotter and rainier, and Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30.
