Punta Mita, also called Punta de Mita, is a peninsula at the northern tip of Banderas Bay in Riviera Nayarit, on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It combines a small surf and fishing village with a private, gated resort community that is home to two Jack Nicklaus golf courses and some of Mexico’s best-known luxury resorts. Most visitors stay inside the gated Punta Mita community or at the beachfront resorts along the road into the peninsula, near Litibú and Costa Banderas.

International flights land at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), about 40 to 50 minutes away by car. The local currency is the Mexican peso, and U.S. dollars are widely accepted at the resorts. The dry season runs from about November to May, while June to October is hotter, more humid and rainy. Eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, and humpback whales visit the bay from about December to March.
