A colorful street in the town of Sayulita, Mexico, on a sunny day

Sayulita is a small surf town on the Riviera Nayarit coast, about 40 km (25 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta. Its gentle waves make it a popular place to learn to surf, and its colorful streets are full of taco stands, cafes and small shops. It was named a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) in 2015. Most visitors stay in boutique hotels and rentals in the town center near Sayulita Beach, on the hills around it, or in quieter San Pancho, a few minutes to the north.

International flights land at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), about 45 minutes to 1 hour away by car. The local currency is the Mexican peso, and U.S. dollars are accepted in some places. The dry season runs from about November to May, while June to October is hot and rainy, and hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30.
