Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, off the northwest coast of Africa, and home to Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain. Most visitors stay in the sunny south, in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos, while Puerto de la Cruz is the main resort town on the greener north coast.

Most international flights land at Tenerife South Airport (TFS), about 15 to 20 minutes from Costa Adeje. Tenerife North Airport (TFN), near La Laguna, handles mostly flights from mainland Spain and the other islands. The local currency is the euro. The weather is mild all year, and winter is the busiest season, when the south stays warm and sunny.
