St. Barts (Saint-Barthélemy) is a small, hilly French island in the northeastern Caribbean, about 35 kilometers southeast of St. Martin. It is known for its white sand bays, its chic harbor town of Gustavia and its upscale hotels and villas. Most visitors stay around St-Jean Bay, the calm lagoon of Grand Cul-de-Sac, Flamands, Lorient or the quieter east side near Toiny.

Gustaf III Airport (SBH) in St-Jean takes only small planes, about 5 to 15 minutes from most hotels. Most travelers fly into Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) on St. Maarten and connect by short flight or ferry. The local currency is the euro, and U.S. dollars are widely accepted. The drier season runs from about December to April, and hurricane season from June 1 to November 30. Many hotels close for a few weeks from late August to October.
