Snow-capped mountains rising above calm water in Alaska

Alaska is the largest U.S. state, known for its glaciers, mountains, wildlife and long summer days. Most visitors base themselves in Anchorage, then travel south to Girdwood and the Kenai Peninsula or north to Denali National Park. Many others arrive by cruise ship, stopping at ports such as Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway and Seward.

Most flights land at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC), about 10 to 15 minutes from downtown Anchorage, about 45 minutes from Girdwood and about 2.5 hours from Seward by road. Denali is about 4 to 5 hours north by car or train. The main travel season runs from about mid-May to mid-September, when days are long and most tours operate. Winter brings snow, skiing and the chance to see the northern lights. Browse resorts and tours in Alaska below, from glacier and wildlife cruises and whale watching to dog sledding and flightseeing over Denali.
