Da Nang and Hoi An sit side by side on the central coast of Vietnam. Da Nang is a modern beach city with the long, sandy My Khe Beach, the Son Tra Peninsula and the Marble Mountains, while Hoi An, about 30 km south, is a UNESCO-listed old trading port known for its lantern-lit streets, tailors and riverside cafes. Most visitors stay at the beach resorts between Da Nang and Hoi An, or in and around Hoi An Ancient Town.

International flights land at Da Nang International Airport (DAD), about 10 to 20 minutes from the Da Nang beachfront and 40 to 50 minutes from Hoi An. The local currency is the Vietnamese dong. The drier, sunnier months run from about February to August, while September to December is the rainy season, when storms and floods can hit.
