About Alila Villas Uluwatu

Alila Villas Uluwatu is a clifftop resort on the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula in Uluwatu, Bali, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It has 65 villas, from one-bedroom pool villas to larger multi-bedroom residences.

What sets it apart is its striking contemporary architecture and dramatic setting high above the ocean, including the Sunset Cabana perched on the cliff edge. It suits couples, honeymooners and design lovers who want privacy, space and sunset views rather than a beach resort.

Beach, pools and spa

This is a clifftop resort rather than a beachfront one. The main pool is a heated cliff-edge infinity pool, and every villa has a private pool.

Spa Alila offers Asian and Western treatments, including a Balinese creambath and four-hand massage, and treatments can be booked in the spa, in a cliff-edge cabana or in your villa. The gym is open 24 hours, and private yoga, pilates and meditation sessions are available.

Uluwatu is known for its surf breaks and small beaches tucked below the cliffs, such as those around Padang Padang and Bingin, which are a short drive away.

Activities and entertainment

Days here are slow-paced: swimming in your villa pool, spa treatments, yoga and long dinners. There is no kids club listed, though the resort says families are welcome and toys are available for children.

Uluwatu Temple, famous for its clifftop setting and evening Kecak fire dance, is close by, and the area’s surf breaks draw experienced surfers year-round.

Beyond the resort, Bali packs a lot into a small island: sea temples such as Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, the rice terraces and craft villages around Ubud, surf breaks on the Bukit Peninsula and the beach clubs of Seminyak and Canggu. Traffic in the south can be slow, so it pays to plan day trips by area.

Who it’s best for

  • Best for: couples and honeymooners, design fans and travelers who want a private pool villa and sunset views.
  • Consider another resort if: you want to walk straight onto a beach, need a kids club or want nightlife on the doorstep.

Getting there from Ngurah Rai International Airport

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is roughly 45 to 65 minutes from the resort by car, depending on traffic on the roads through the Bukit Peninsula.

Most hotels can arrange a car to meet you at arrivals, which is the easiest option after a long flight. Traffic in south Bali can be heavy, especially in the late afternoon, so allow extra time for the return trip to the airport.
