About Bolongo Bay Beach Resort

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort is a family-owned and family-run resort on the south side of St. Thomas, open since 1974. It has 65 rooms, each with a private balcony facing the Caribbean, set right on Bolongo Bay beach. The resort’s own slogan describes it as big enough to be real and small enough to be intimate.

What sets it apart is that it is one of the few true all-inclusive options on the island. Bolongo has offered its all-inclusive plan since 1989, and most guests now choose it. It suits couples and families who want a relaxed, unpretentious beach resort, live music and water sports included, at a lower price than the big luxury names.

Rooms and suites

All 65 rooms have a private balcony with Caribbean Sea views. Room options include:

  • Beachfront rooms steps from the sand
  • Rooms with private balconies facing the Caribbean Sea
  • Room-only or all-inclusive rates

There is no elevator, so guests with mobility needs should book a beachfront room. Rooms are simple and clean rather than fancy, which matches the easygoing feel of the resort.

Restaurants and bars

Dining is centered on the Iggies brand, beside the beach and pool:

  • Iggies’ Oasis: oceanside restaurant serving Caribbean and seafood dishes for three meals a day
  • Iggies Beach Bar and Grill: casual beach bar, known for bang bang shrimp tacos and ribs
  • Swim-up pool bar

The all-inclusive plan covers three meals a day with nightly dinner specials, and drinks including island cocktails, with top-shelf brands excluded. Guests on room-only rates pay as they go.

Beach, pools and spa

Bolongo Bay is a calm beach on the south shore. The resort has a pool with a swim-up bar steps from the sand.

There is no full spa on site, but there is a small gym with cardio equipment.

Activities and entertainment

Non-motorized water sports are included in the all-inclusive plan: stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, windsurfers, Hobie Cat sailboats, snorkel gear and an introductory scuba lesson. Wave runner rentals cost extra. The resort’s catamaran, Heavenly Days, runs sailing trips including swimming with sea turtles.

Live music plays five or more nights a week, and guests mention karaoke and sip-and-paint nights.

Around the island, Magens Bay on the north shore is one of the best-known beaches in the Caribbean, and Coki Point is a favorite for snorkeling. Charlotte Amalie has duty-free shopping and historic streets, and the ferry from Red Hook takes you to St. John, where much of the island is protected as Virgin Islands National Park. Day sails to the British Virgin Islands are also popular, though they need a passport.

Who it’s best for

  • Best for: couples and families who want a casual all-inclusive on the beach, travelers on a moderate budget, guests who like a friendly, family-run feel.
  • Consider another resort if: you want luxury rooms, a full spa or an elevator in every building.

Getting there from Cyril E. King Airport
