About Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is a large oceanfront resort in Poipu on Kauai’s sunny south shore. It has 605 rooms over six floors, set in landscaped gardens with koi ponds, waterfalls and about five acres of saltwater swimming lagoons that run down toward Keoneloa Bay.

What sets it apart is the pool complex. There is a saltwater lagoon, river pools that wind through waterfalls and caves, a 150-foot waterslide and a separate adult pool area. It suits families who want kids entertained all day, couples who want a full-service spa, and golfers who want Poipu Bay Golf Course next door.

Rooms and suites

Rooms range from garden-view rooms to ocean-view suites, most with a lanai. Main categories include:

  • Garden and resort-view rooms
  • Ocean-view rooms
  • Grand Club rooms with lounge access
  • Suites

Grand Club rooms add access to the club lounge. Ocean-view rooms on higher floors look over the lagoons and gardens toward the Pacific, which is worth the extra cost if views matter to you.

Restaurants and bars

Dining runs from a poolside surf shack to a romantic dinner beside the lagoons:

  • Tidepools: contemporary Hawaiian and Pacific Rim, dinner only, in thatched huts over koi-filled lagoons
  • Ilima Terrace: open-air breakfast and lunch
  • Hale Nalu: casual surf-shack lunch and snacks
  • Stevenson’s Library: bar with nightly sushi and sashimi
  • Seaview Terrace: breakfast, sunset cocktails, pupus and live Hawaiian entertainment
  • Grand Hyatt Kauai Luau: buffet dinner show with Polynesian dance, reservations required

Most restaurants have children’s menus. Reservations are a good idea for Tidepools and the luau in high season.

Beach, pools and spa

The resort sits above Keoneloa Bay, often called Shipwrecks Beach, where the surf can be strong, so most guests swim in the lagoons and pools. There are four outdoor pools in total, including the saltwater lagoon, the river pools with waterslide and an adult pool area.

Anara Spa is the resort’s award-winning spa, offering massages, facials and body treatments.

One pool is listed as closed from September 16 to December 20, 2026, so check pool availability if you are traveling in that window.

Activities and entertainment

Poipu Bay Golf Course, an 18-hole course, is next to the resort. Childcare and babysitting are available for a fee, and the luau is a family favorite.

Guests can walk the coastal trail along the cliffs from Shipwrecks Beach, and Poipu’s shops and beaches are a short drive away.

Kauai is known as the Garden Isle, and its big sights are spread around the island. Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park are on the west side, the Na Pali Coast can be seen by boat tour, helicopter or on foot along the Kalalau Trail, and the north shore has Hanalei Bay and Tunnels Beach. On the south shore, Poipu Beach is known for calm swimming and frequent Hawaiian monk seal sightings, and Spouting Horn blowhole is a short drive away.

Who it’s best for

  • Best for: families who want a big pool complex, couples who want a full-service spa, golfers and travelers who like a full-service resort.
  • Consider another resort if: you want a calm swimming beach right in front of your room, or a small, quiet hotel. The resort fee and dining costs also add up.

Getting there from Lihue Airport

Grand Hyatt Kauai is about 17 miles from Lihue Airport (LIH), roughly a 30-minute drive. There is no airport shuttle, so most guests rent a car.

Lihue Airport has nonstop flights from the US mainland and frequent inter-island flights from Honolulu. Most visitors rent a car, because public transport on Kauai is limited and the island’s sights are spread out. US citizens do not need a passport to visit Hawaii from the mainland.
