About Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, Autograph Collection

Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu, Autograph Collection is a villa-style resort on 25 acres of Kauai’s south shore, part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. It has 306 studios and villas over four floors, about half a mile from Poipu Beach and next to the Kukui’ula Village shops.

What sets it apart is space. Villas come with full gourmet kitchens and up to three bedrooms, and the centerpiece is a 350,000-gallon saltwater lagoon pool with swim-through waterfalls. It suits families and groups who want room to spread out and cook, and travelers who like a resort pool scene without a big hotel tower.

Rooms and suites

Units range from studios to large three-bedroom villas, all with a lanai:

  • Deluxe Island-View and Coastline-View Studios of about 473 square feet
  • One-Bedroom Villas of about 860 square feet
  • Two-Bedroom Villas of about 1,400 square feet
  • Three-Bedroom Villas of about 2,600 square feet

Restaurants and bars

Dining is casual and designed around the pool:

  • Holoholo Grill: Hawaiian comfort food developed with James Beard award-winning chef Sam Choy, next to the main pool
  • Gourmet Marketplace: open-air lobby market with made-to-order American and Hawaiian food, pupus and groceries
  • Poolside grill and bar

With kitchens in every unit, many guests shop at nearby grocery stores and cook some meals. Kukui’ula Village, next door, has more restaurants.

Beach, pools and spa

The resort is not directly on a beach, but Poipu Beach is about half a mile away. The main pool is a 350,000-gallon saltwater lagoon pool with cabanas and swim-through waterfalls, and there are three lagoon pools in total plus two hot tubs.

Spa, massage and salon services are available for a fee, and there is a sauna and fitness center.

Activities and entertainment

The resort lists activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, yoga, Pilates, volleyball, basketball, bicycles and mini golf, either on site or arranged through the activities desk. Babysitting is available for a fee.

Kauai is known as the Garden Isle, and its big sights are spread around the island. Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park are on the west side, the Na Pali Coast can be seen by boat tour, helicopter or on foot along the Kalalau Trail, and the north shore has Hanalei Bay and Tunnels Beach. On the south shore, Poipu Beach is known for calm swimming and frequent Hawaiian monk seal sightings, and Spouting Horn blowhole is a short drive away.

Who it’s best for

  • Best for: families and groups who want villas with kitchens, travelers who like a big lagoon pool, Marriott Bonvoy members.
  • Consider another resort if: you want to step straight from your room onto the beach, or you want a full-service luxury hotel feel.

Getting there from Lihue Airport

Koloa Landing is about 13 miles from Lihue Airport (LIH) on the south shore. Most guests rent a car for the drive and for exploring the island.

Lihue Airport has nonstop flights from the US mainland and frequent inter-island flights from Honolulu. Most visitors rent a car, because public transport on Kauai is limited and the island’s sights are spread out. US citizens do not need a passport to visit Hawaii from the mainland.
