Barbados is the easternmost island in the Caribbean, known for its calm, sandy west coast beaches, its lively south coast and the wild Atlantic shore on the east. Most visitors stay on the Platinum Coast around Holetown and Speightstown, or on the south coast around Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap.

International flights land at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in the south, about 15 to 20 minutes from the south coast and 40 to 60 minutes from the west coast resorts. The local currency is the Barbados dollar, and U.S. dollars are widely accepted. The drier season runs from about December to May, and hurricane season from June 1 to November 30.
